The Hawthorne Valley Farmscape Ecology Program will lead an exploration of plants and insects in the meadows of a former working orchard on private land in Gallatin. This site includes approximately 80 acres of open fields now managed to support native biodiversity.
During the walk we'll become familiar with meadow plants and look for pollinators and other insects. We will also discuss the impacts of historic land use and our changing climate on Hudson Valley biodiversity.
This event will be held on private property — which also includes a three-acre field that forms part of Partners for Climate Action's at-risk pollinator habitat restoration program, Pollinate Now! — and the address will be provided upon registration. Please note that the walk will take us through unmowed fields and uneven terrain. Consider wearing long pants and sleeves to protect yourself from ticks.
The walk is hosted by Partners for Climate Action (as part of their Get Outside series to connect with the outdoors while connecting with each other).
