Botanizing along the Southern Taconic Trail in Copake Falls

Sunday, May 22, 2022 - 10:00 to 13:00

Sunday, May 22, 10am-1pm: Botanizing along Southern Taconic Trail in Copake Falls (offered through the New York Flora Association, please register here).

We will walk through Oak Forest and Oak-Heath Barrens, and hopefully find a lot of Pink Lady's Slippers along the way. This is one of the locations in Columbia County with the highest concentration of species in the heath family: will we find a dozen species? It is also one of the few locations where we have repeatedly found Large Whorled Pogonia, Three-toothed Cinquefoil, and Bastard Toadflax. Weather permitting, you will be rewarded with a beautiful view from Sunset Rock looking west across Columbia County, the Hudson River, and the Catskills. Make sure to bring a lunch!
